Substance use and criminal behavior are linked; indeed, substance misuse is identified as a criminogenic risk factor. Consequently, there is a strong need to make effective substance use treatment available in our jails and prisons. However, these settings present unique challenges to the provision of treatment to incarcerated people. Dr. Thompson will talk about the clinical and administrative concerns associated with correctional treatment programs, best practices, and the importance of community-based services to support recovery throughout reentry.
